MacConkey Broth is a selective enrichment medium designed for the cultivation of Gram-negative enteric bacteria while inhibiting Gram-positive bacteria. It contains bile salts and crystal violet as selective agents, and lactose as a differential component. The medium is used for the enrichment of Salmonella, Shigella, and other enteric pathogens from clinical specimens.
